Technology Innovation at ITS Best

In an interview with December's DCSD Innovative teacher, Ms. Burrell, we learned how she is using technology to engage her students and expose them to a 21st Century Learning Environment. Ms. Burrell is an Algebra teacher at Redan High School.
Instructional Technology : How are you leveraging technology as a communication tool to bridge make the home-school connection solid?
Ms. Burrell: I use technology to communicate with parents through my website. My website is very informative. It provides relevant information about myself, the classroom structure, content related links, downloaded homework assignments, and learning resources for students and parents. On my parent resource page, I provide a way for parents to contact me.
Instructional Technology:Which edtech tool(s) are you using in your classroom?
Ms. Burrell: I use my Remind to communicate important dates to parents and students. Edmodo allows me to upload my PowerPoints and share with my students. Some of my PowerPoints are interlaced with videos that reinforce ideas and provide examples. I use my Promethean board daily! Since this is a math class, students are required to bring their issued TI-84 calculators to class daily. Tables and laptops are common device in my classroom and useful when my students connect to USATESTPREP.
